The theme for the Rubin Museum’s 2011 gala was the exhibition Modernist Art from India: The Body Unbound which focused on representations of the figure and the body in modernist art from India after its independence. I created the vibrant imagery for the gala ephemera from sourced photographs of a classical Indian dancer’s hands by manipulating the color, adding a henna-style print overlay, and playfully integrating the images with the type.
